What happened in 2020 - 4th January 2021

2020 was a difficult year for many people. There was the coronavirus pandemic. And there were environment problems. But there was some good news too. People did some amazing things.

There were lots of problems for the environment. In Bangladesh, there was a big storm. In Russia and Mauritius, there were accidents with oil.

But there was good news for the environment too. In Australia, scientists found a new coral reef. It is 500 metres tall.

In Australia, people tried to help animals. Koalas are a special Australian animal. In 2020, fires killed lots of koalas. After this, the government made new rules. The rules help koalas.

In Europe, people ate some unusual animals. People bought shark meat. But they didn't know it was shark. They thought it was tuna.

And in Norway, people ate whale meat. Whales are big sea animals. Not many people eat whale. This year, some Norwegians tried it for the first time.

In the Netherlands, a whale saved a train driver! But it wasn't a real whale. It was a model of a whale at a train station. A train crashed at the station. The whale model stopped the train.

There was lots of new technology this year too. In the US, scientists made living robots. The robots have cells from animals’ skin. Some other scientists made robots for farmers. The robots check plants for farmers.

There were lots of problems in the world in 2020. But people tried to find answers to these problems. Now, people hope 2021 will be a good year.
