Google bosses leave work - 8th December 2019
Larry Page and Sergey Brin started Google. Now they are leaving their jobs there to become its 'proud parents'.
They are going to watch the company develop and offer it 'advice and love'.
Page and Brin founded Google in a Californian garage in 1998. Now they are 46 years old and are leaving their jobs at Alphabet, Google's parent company. Page was Chief Executive Officer and Brin was President. They are still board members and shareholders. They don't think Google needs them to manage it. Google CEO Sundar Pichai becomes the new CEO of Alphabet.
Google's had amazing success in its 21 years because of Page and Brin's skills. Their Google search engine made searching the internet easier. They always looked for new ideas for useful technology.
The name 'Google' comes from 'googol', a huge number (1 plus 100 zeros). Someone accidentally spelled it 'Google' and Page liked it.
They made the Chrome web browser and bought and developed Android. They purchased YouTube and sold advertising. This paid for experimental projects in lab 'X'.
Work for the new leader, Pichai, is going to be difficult. There are challenges from companies like Amazon and people are worried about how technology is being used.
