Panama's liquid gold - B1+

Geisha coffee is a speciality coffee. It’s grown in Boquete, a region in Northern Panama. It’s thought of as the most expensive in the world.

This coffee bean broke records in 2019 when it sold at auction for $1,029 a pound.

Geisha beans are grown in several Central and South American countries. However, only Boquete’s coffee is said to have the highest quality.

The beans were given a score of 98 out of 100 by Coffee Review. This specialist publication makes the Boquete Geisha beans the best coffee in the world.

Situated between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, Boquete’s unique climate is believed to give the coffee its unique taste.

Justin Boudeman, a speciality coffee producer, works in the Boquete area. Justin Boudeman: “We’re never going to compete on a commodity level. We’re a…we’re blessed by this terroir. We’re a specialty and a luxury item and that’s our niche, that’s our niche in the market.”

The coffee market is now a luxury business and it’s thought that Panama’s Geisha beans could fetch even higher prices in 2020.
