Blue skies over lockdown Delhi - 27th May 2020
Delhi in Northern India is one of the world’s most polluted cities.
Images which were taken in November last year show just how bad the pollution can be. But these images are a major contrast to the clear blue skies over the city during the Coronavirus pandemic.
This dramatic change has been brought about by the nationwide lockdown. Industries were closed and construction work halted. Public transport was suspended and there are few cars on the road.
Siddarth Singh is an energy and climate policy expert. He believes that air pollution is a human problem.
Siddarth Singh: We have created it. And when human activity stops naturally air quality improves. But the extent to which it has improved has come as a surprise to everyone.
