Hollywood smiled for the cameras as they lined up for the Academy Awards on Sunday. The red carpet stirred with nervous excitement as stars arrived hoping to take home cinema’s most sought-after prizes.
Huge cheers greeted South Korean film Parasite’s success on hearing it named Best Picture. Filmed in Korean, it becomes the first non-English language movie in Academy history to receive the award.
Producer Kwak Sin-ae collected the Oscar. Kwak Sin-ae: "I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now."
Parasite’s writer and director, Bong Joon-ho, celebrated two Oscar wins - one for Best Director and another for Best Original Screenplay. Overall, Parasite has added four Oscars to more than 20 other international awards.
Joaquin Phoenix and Renée Zellweger were hailed Best Actor and Best Actress for their respective leading roles in ‘Joker’ and ‘Judy’. Brad Pitt’s performance in ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ was awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
