Scientists: ban sunbeds - A2

Sunbeds are dangerous - 27th June 2022

Scientists want to ban sunbeds in England. They say they're unsafe. They should be illegal.

Australia banned sunbeds. The University of Manchester is studying sunbeds. It's studying sunbeds and our health.

Professor Adele Green studies health and disease. She said that people have the wrong information about sunbeds. People can't get vitamin D from sunbeds. They make the skin get old. They cause skin cancer, too.

Susanna Daniels is the CEO of Melanoma Focus. She said that sunbeds are a bad idea. Sunbeds have a lot of UV rays. These are more than the midday sun. UV rays damage the skin's DNA.

The Sunbed Association disagrees with the scientists. There are thousands of tanning salons in the UK. The chairman, Gary Lipman, says that the studies include data from other countries. But he thinks the UK follows strict rules for sunbeds.
