Elephant family trip - 25th June 2021

This family of elephants is on a long journey. They are travelling through south west China. This is a big problem.

They go into small villages. They eat farmers' plants. They drink the animals’ water.

They are wild Asian elephants. They usually live in a nature park in Yunnan. The government looks after them.

No one knows where the elephants are going. They walked 500 kilometres in 6 weeks. This is not normal. The elephants may be lost.

Police are watching the elephants with cameras. Local people want to be safe. The elephants aren’t angry. But people are afraid. They try to stop the elephants with food. They block their way with trucks too.

300 wild elephants live in Yunnan. Sometimes one or two enter small villages. This time, it’s a whole family.
