70s superstars ABBA are back! - B2

Mamma Mia here they go again - 8th September 2021

Abba fans around the world are bubbling with excitement after the announcement of a new album and a London show.

The legendary Swedish group, who first came to public attention as winners of the Eurovision song contest in 1974, with the song Waterloo, have not released new music in 40 years.

The album of 10 songs entitled Voyage has Mansa Faddaoui, the floor manager of the ABBA museum in Stockholm filled with excitement.

Mansa Faddaoui: "Where should I start? It feels magical, it feels like a dream, it feels like we’ve been waiting for this for a long time. We [ABBA the museum] opened in 2013 and about 2018 we heard about some new songs, today I heard two of them - how crazy is that?"

Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, the composers of the group’s string of hits and 400 million album sales, announced the new release in London. Voyage will be available from November 5th and 2022 will see their first concert in 4 decades. Albeit a concert with a difference. Now all in their 70s, Anni-Frid, Agnetha, Benny and Bjorn had no desire to put themselves through the rigours of a live tour.

Replacing them will be digital avatars which were created by the 4 royals of pop wearing specially wired suits.

Many fans can remember ABBA the first time round but there are thousands, too young to remember them in their prime but who have discovered their music through the Mamma Mia movies. However, live or avatar - it simply doesn’t matter.

Hakan: "I’m knocked out! ABBA is back! ABBA is back! ABBA are avatars!"

Johanna Pihl: "I think there is enormous shock in my entire body just looking at the video when it started to roll out in its entirety of this global event and the fantastic sensation of being all together and now we’re finally able to be all together in some sort of way after all this. "

The first digital concert is scheduled to take place in London in May 2022. Fans can hardly wait.

Hakan: "I absolutely have to go to London to watch this [the ABBA show]. Amazing good"
