Review of 2023 (part 2)

In the last 6 months of 2023, people tried to fix many problems.

In Denmark, police officers started playing video games online. They want the internet to be safe for everyone. They want to stop online crime.

Sisse Birkebaek: "When we tell them about what our main target is, is just to be present and try to, to make it a safer place in the internet, especially for, for youngsters, then they are actually quite happy about it, especially the parents."

There were good changes in sports for women. In Australia, Spain won the 2023 Women’s Football World Cup. The team beat England 1-0.

Jolie Hill feels great about the success of women in sport.

Jolie Hill: "The fact that like 50-60 years ago, we weren't even allowed to play football in this country, and now we're here in the final of the Women's World Cup... I'm so proud of them. Like, genuinely, it, it does bring a tear to my eye."

In India, scientists put a spaceship on the moon. India's the fourth country to land on the moon. But it's the first to go to the moon's south pole.

P Veeramuthuvel: "The entire mission operations, right from launch till landing, happened flawlessly as per the timeline. And, we became the fourth country to land, to demonstrate the soft landing onto the moon's surface and we became the first country to go to the near to the south pole of the moon."

A music company is helping deaf people to experience music. Music: Not Impossible made special equipment. Deaf people can wear this equipment and feel music. It changes the sounds into vibrations. It vibrates on the skin. Now, everyone can enjoy music together.

Flavia Naslausky: "As you know already, this was designed with and inspired by the deaf community. And along this journey, though, we realised that everybody wants to use it. This is about shared connections, shared experiences, bringing people together that otherwise wouldn't be together."

Sony's got a new controller for computer games. It's for Playstation. People with disabilities can use it. This gamer can now play again after 15 years. She can use Sony's controller.

Melanie Eilert: "I can only play with my right hand. So the number of inputs I can do is limited.

Interviewer: And so how does this change your whole gaming experience?

Melanie Eilert: “So, with the external buttons I can attach, the number of buttons I can use increases."

2023 was full of news about amazing people and events. But no one found the answer to climate change. World leaders talked about this problem again in Dubai. But in the Arctic, the danger is real. Soon, the Inuit people won’t have any drinking water.

Erling Rasmussen: "But it's melting so maybe in a few years it's gone. It can be a problem. So I think in the future the city will have to get its drinking water from the ocean." Weniger anzeigen
