The end of plastic bottles?

Drinks companies want to use a new bottle. The new bottles use a new plastic. They make the plastic from plants.

The new bottle has two parts. The outside is paper. The new plastic is on the inside. The new plastic is strong. The drinks stay cold. The bottle is easy to recycle. You can recycle both the paper and the plastic.

Three companies make the bottle. Avantium is a Dutch chemicals company. BillerudKorsnäs makes the packaging. Alpla makes the bottles. The companies want to stop plastic pollution.

There is a lot of plastic in the world. Every year, companies make 300 million tonnes. People do not recycle a lot of the plastic. They throw it away. In the end, the plastic goes in the sea. This is bad for the environment.

The new bottle is not ready yet. The boss of Avantium is Tom van Aken. He says the bottles will be ready by 2023.
