Bella Hadid's spray on dress

Dress sprayed on model in Paris - 24th October 2022

Paris Fashion Week was full of its usual surprises. But one dress in particular attracted a lot of attention. News of that dress, which was designed by French designers Coperni, immediately spread online.

In the show, the model Bella Hadid walked on stage where four people were waiting. Three designers then used spray guns to cover the model's skin. It initially looked like white paint, but as soon as it dried, it became fabric. Hadid stood still while the fourth expert then cut and shaped the fabric. After about 15 minutes, the supermodel walked in front of the amazed audience.

Afterwards, Coperni designers Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant told reporters that they hoped to bring together fashion and technology through the spray-on dress.

The spray-on fabric, named Fabrican, was invented by Dr. Manel Torres in 2003. Using a special technique, he created the liquid fibre. It was originally designed for medical purposes, such as for creating casts to protect broken bones. However, the invention has a huge range of other uses and it's also employed in building cars, as well as to help clean up oil spills at sea.

Its role in the fashion business is also huge and exciting. Like normal fabrics, it can be cut and sewn, and it can be produced to have a range of textures too, so it feels different. Because of this, it could turn the fashion world upside down. Fabrican says it "will free designers to create new and unique" pieces of clothing. It will also let the user change their clothing any way they wish.

Hadid thanked Coperni for their "passion" in an Instagram post. "I love you," the 25 year old wrote.
