Royal parade ends jubilee - 8th June 2022
Queen Elizabeth II has been queen for 70 years. Her platinum jubilee finished with a huge parade. At the front was the Queen's beautiful gold coach that took her to be crowned as queen.
The parade continued with lots of displays, which included music, dancing and different fashions that showed how society has changed since 1952.
There were over 10,000 people in the parade, which cost £15 million. Hundreds of thousands of people came to the celebrations. They filled the streets for the parade, the concert, and to see the royal family.
Many travelled long distances. Kim Darcy described the emotion.
Kim Darcy: "Well, it, it was – very exhilarating – a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Especially when we actually got to see the Queen come out on the balcony. That was just – everyone around me was, was crying, especially singing the anthem. And it was just, it was unreal. And I'm so fortunate to be here to experience it."
Now 96 years old, the Queen had to miss some events. But there was a surprise at the end of the parade. She came onto the balcony at Buckingham Palace with her family.
German visitor Tim Lunze described the excitement of the moment.
Tim Lunze: "It's was very exciting. I am – it was one moment in life that is, that I see, see her because not many people can, could see her. And we were running and running and running and then we stand in front of the balcony. And at this, until this moment you don't know if, if she come or if she not come. And then she come and it was, was so nice."
The Queen being on the balcony was a perfect moment. Manchester resident Colin Hewitt thought it was the right ending.
Colin Hewitt: "Only way to end – see the queen, say goodbye and we'll see you again. Yeah, the best way to end the show, yes."
