The natural world in 2021 - 2nd April 2021
This year started very different to normal. We spent a lot of time outside. London had an outside art show. But you saw the art with your phone. This is augmented reality art. Lots of people could see the art.
Birbaum: “One of the ideas has been to democratise art, to, to, to, in a way, make art visible in places where normally it's not visible. You know, there are people who don't live in major capitals where there are big collections."
In Spain, the weather was strange. It snowed a lot. No one could travel. People in Madrid were happy. They made snowmen. They had fun in the snow. They could forget about the pandemic. People felt good.
Covadonga Solares: ”It's great! We're so excited and there's also such a good atmosphere. You see people having fun and I really - maybe I'm a bit too sensitive, I think it's moving, the mood is happy. It's nice, really."
People in Belgium want to stop pollution. They are helping scientists. They go for walks with a special baby. Baby Claire checks the air. The special machines find dangerous pollution.
Bonaers: "I have a child myself and I worry that she has to grow up in a very polluted city.”
People in Hong Kong can't travel. So they visited Grass Island. Now, it has no grass, but lots of rubbish. The cows on the island are hungry. There's nothing to eat. They are eating plastic rubbish.
Ho Loy: "Many of the cow you can see that they have like a strange, swollen stomach, which mean they have a certain amount of plastic in their, in their digestion system already."
People are saving birds in South Africa. Thousands of baby birds have no parents. The birds are cormorants. Their parents left them. There wasn't enough food for them. People are worried about this situation.
Nicky Stander: "If they’re not finding their fish in the wild, what's going to happen? They’re going to either stop breeding or if they do breed, they’re going to just abandon if they’re not finding enough food.”
And one sheep in Australia is very lucky. People found Baarack the sheep in the forest. The sheep had a very big coat. No one cut his coat for 5 years. It was very heavy and this was dangerous for him. Baarack became famous on TikTok.
