Parkour in Doha - 26th August 2020
Parkour is a sport. It has another name too: free-running. Now, it's popular in Doha, Qatar.
The sport started in France. You can see parkour in some action films. This made parkour popular.
In parkour, people run in cities. They jump over things like walls. They jump up buildings.
Parkour is very popular in many countries. But in Qatar, people don't exercise outside. So parkour wasn't popular in Doha. Until now. Now, it is becoming popular.
Gyms are closed. People have to wear masks inside. But you can do parkour outside. So people are doing parkour.
Jaden Abrahams is from South Africa.
Abrahams: “No matter where you go in the world there is places where people will get mad, will tell you off and then there's places where you can just do it freely.”
Achref Bejaoui is from Tunisia.
Bejaoui: “You know if you step on even the grass here, the security will ask you to leave, but I think now they get to know us because we keep coming here so they start feeling that we are playing safe, we are not doing anything wrong so I think it's getting famous, more and more."
Karam Chakachero is new to parkour.
Chakachero: "I did my first back flip and I was like, okay, that's it, but then when I learnt it on the ground I was like, this is so cool! I want to do more.”
