World famous as Chinese New Year, in Vietnam it is called Tet Nguyen Dan.
Lunar New Year is celebrated as the first day of spring. It is Vietnam’s most important holiday.
This family business makes incense sticks in a small village near Hanoi. Tet Nguyen Dan is a very busy time for them. Incense has an important place in Vietnamese traditions.
When an incense sticks burns, it takes your prayers to the gods and family spirits. It is tradition to only burn incense in odd numbers: 3, 5, 7 or 9 sticks. Each number of sticks has a special meaning.
So, this family of incense makers will be in business for a long time.
