The Greek island Zakynthos is famous. People think its beaches and sea are very clean. But plastic pollution is also a threat here. It's dangerous for wildlife, including fish and turtles.
The organisation Aegean Rebreath is trying to save the area's wildlife. People have come from around the world to volunteer. After three hours, they have collected four tyres, two shopping carts, a street lamp, metal boxes, plastic bags, plastic bottles and kilometres of fishing line.
Scientists at a research centre in Athens have found plastic in 20-45 percent of fish. Plastic is also found in 75 percent of the turtles tested.
George Triantaphyllidis is a scientist at the centre. For him, the situation is clear: we must change our use of plastics.
George Triantaphyllidis: "I believe that everybody should change its habits. So, we don’t have to use the single use plastics in our daily life. We have to do a small revolution inside ourselves first."
